History
Lake Placid and the surrounding area is rich in history and tradition.
Home to some of the Adirondack's most magnificent Great Camps. The Rockefeller's "The Point", Majorie Merriweather Post's "Topridge" and JPMorgan's "Camp Uncas" to name a few.

Olympics
The 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics were held in Lake Placid. One of only three cities in the world to have hosted the games twice. St. Moritz - 1928 and 1948, Lake Placid - 1932 and 1980, Innsbruck - 1964 and 1976.

Things to do
All of the Olympic venues are open for you to experience and tour either individually or with a passport that gets you into all of the sites.

Whiteface Mountain
I highly recommend driving up the Veterans Memorial Highway to Whiteface Mountain. This is my favorite way to see Whiteface Mountain and the views. Grab some lunch to go at the Big Mountain Deli in Lake Placid and have a picnic up top! Once there, you can either do a very short and easy hike up to the summit or take an elevator ride up. The summit is avaliable to everyone.
The Gondola ride is good as well. It goes up the other side of Whiteface but does not reach the summit or give you the 360 degree views that the other route does.
